About The Author

David Miller

David Miller is a retired Navy Captain whose twenty-two-year career in the United States Navy was spent serving aboard four nuclear-powered submarines, with his final assignment as Commanding Officer. Most of those years were spent at sea, where he gained extensive firsthand experience in submarine operations, tactical weapons systems, navigation, sonar, fire control, leadership, and the unique challenges of commanding crews beneath the ocean.

During his Navy career, David progressed through positions of increasing responsibility, from junior officer to Commanding Officer. He also served with submarine squadrons and staffs, where he was involved in training and preparing submariners to operate and certify with some of the Navy’s most advanced tactical weapons and systems. His experience gave him an inside understanding of submarine warfare, not only the technology and tactics, but also the people, decisions, pressures, and risks involved in operating these vessels.

After retiring from the Navy, David continued his education at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He subsequently entered the rapidly developing field of high-speed wireless and fiber-optic sensing and communications with Northrop Grumman Corporation. He later worked with the company’s Advanced Research and Development Group, focusing on submarine sensors and miniaturized inertial platforms. These technologies have applications across military platforms and systems operating under the sea, on the earth’s surface, and in space.

David’s professional experience has played an important role in shaping his approach to fiction. Rather than relying solely on imagination, he draws upon decades of experience with submarines, military operations, leadership, technology, and the people who serve in high-pressure environments.

His novels combine these experiences with military suspense, submarine warfare, political intrigue, international conflict, and human relationships. Through his stories, David explores what can happen when military decisions, political ambitions, and international tensions collide, and when individuals are forced to make difficult choices with consequences far beyond themselves.

His Drake Chandler and Andrea Herder Series follows Navy Submarine Captain Drake Chandler and Vice President Andrea Herder through a series of escalating international crises. The books bring readers from the depths of submarine operations to the highest levels of political power, creating stories of suspense grounded in David’s extensive military and technical background.

After a career devoted to the Navy, technology, and national security, David returned to his longstanding interest in writing. His goal is to create stories that are not only entertaining but also give readers a sense of the people, technology, leadership, and decisions behind the events unfolding in his fictional world.
